Position Description:
Cognitive Performance Group (CPG) is seeking a full-time professional to join our team as a Data Visualization Specialist. CPG’s mission is to apply science to improve and support individual and team decision-making and complex cognitive performance. We do that by conducting studies and evaluations and co-developing products that model, measure, train, and support decision-making and cognitive performance in complex, time-pressured, high-risk, uncertain, and dynamic operating environments. We specialize in military contexts and we solve novel problems for Warfighters with our cutting-edge techniques and scientific rigor. We are a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team of applied researchers, technologists, trainers, veterans, and military subject-matter experts who work closely and collaboratively with our partners, clients, stakeholders, and the end users we serve.
The ideal candidate for this position combines strong coding skills with a talent for translating complex data into compelling visual stories. This role bridges data science and visualization by contributing products and concepts that support a fast-paced, high-performing team of applied cognitive scientists, exercise coordinators, technology developers, and tactical subject-matter experts. The successful applicant will work closely with a team of data scientists and human factors engineers to co-design solutions that leverage AI and large language models to accelerate analysis of qualitative and quantitative human performance data and build custom visualization applications that communicate insights from that data clearly and interactively. They will be expected to extract data from system files, manage and reconcile data, and improve the visualizations in stride during training exercises and experimental field events.
___________
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and develop custom data visualization applications using modern web technologies (JavaScript, Python, React, D3.js, or similar frameworks).
• Build and maintain interactive dashboards and reporting tools, including Power BI solutions with custom DAX measures and Power Query transformations.
• Leverage AI tools and large language models (including local/self-hosted LLMs) to streamline data processing, analysis, and visualization workflows.
• Develop and deploy lightweight applications and prototypes to support near real-time data analysis during field exercises.
• Collaborate on product design and interface usability with end users, cognitive scientists, and technologists.
• Automate reporting workflows using scripting, APIs, and tools such as Power Automate and SharePoint.
• Support internal and external stakeholders with meaningful, data-driven insights.
___________
Required Qualifications
Education:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a discipline related to data visualization or software development such as Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Modeling & Simulation, Design Engineering, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, or Data Analytics.
Data Visualization and Development:
• Proven record of building interactive or programmatic visual representations of complex data sets.
• Demonstrated coding proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or other programming languages with portfolio or work samples of application development.
• Experience using AI tools and large language models in professional or project-based work.

• Ability to work effectively as a team and independently in a virtual environment.
• Comfort working with ambiguity and novel concepts in innovative and rapidly changing environments.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Travel Requirements:
• Must be willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time, including an occasional weekend. Trip durations typically range from 7 to 18 days but on occasion may exceed 21 days.
• Must be willing and able to travel CONUS and OCONUS.
• Must be willing to work 10- to 14-hour days while on travel.
