Location: Preference for Washington DC / Northern Virginia area. Travel required.
The primary function of the Senior Learning and Development Consultant is to design and develop innovative learning interventions to foster decision making, problem solving, and other higher-order cognitive skills. The secondary function is to conduct and support research in adult learning and instructional approaches for cognitive skill acquisition. The successful applicant will contribute to the design, development, and facilitation of innovative adult learning programs. This position requires experience in applying adult learning theory to designing programs, courses, or workshops; developing instructional materials; facilitating interactive and experiential learning experiences; and applying technologies to enhance learning. The primary domain of practice is the military, in workshop environments and online learning settings.

Specific duties include:
•    Collaborate with a team of adult learning professionals to further the development and delivery of a highly interactive workshop for instructors, trainers, faculty advisers, and curriculum developers throughout the Marine Corps.
•    Identify training and educational strategies, processes, and technologies that could assist in the professional development of Marine Corps instructors and curriculum developers.
•    Identify innovative program development strategies and processes to enhance curriculum design and development in Marine Corps formal schools.
•    Facilitate learner-centered workshops as part of a pair or team of facilitators.
•    Develop instructional materials for use during and after training interventions.
•    Collect student reaction and performance data to assess the effectiveness of training interventions.
•    Advise Marine Corps Training and Education Command (TECOM) staff on best practices in adult learning strategies, processes, and methods, and support current and future initiatives to enhance staff and faculty development across the Marine Corps. 
•    Brief recommended and actionable learning solutions that improve the professional development of Marine Corps instructors and curriculum developers.
•    Collaborate with an interdisciplinary staff of professionals to identify and develop tools and techniques to support adult learning and performance improvement.
•    Contribute to the development of new business in the research and development of tools and techniques to support adult learning.
•    Travel for two weeks at a time is required.

Required Qualifications:
•    Earned or in the process of earning a doctorate degree (EdD or PhD) from an accredited institution in Adult Learning or a related field, with a focus on Transformative Learning. 
•    Subject matter knowledge in critical thinking, coaching, and program development.
•    Minimum of 5 years of experience facilitating adult learning programs, workshops, or courses.
•    Minimum of 2 years of experience designing and evaluating curriculum for adult learning programs, workshops, or courses. 
•    Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams made up of researchers, facilitators, technologists, and subject matter experts.
•    Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
•    Ability to work effectively as a team or individually in a virtual environment. 
•    Ability to work effectively as a team leader or a team member.
•    Comfortable working with ambiguity and new concepts in rapidly changing environments.
•    Exceptional organization skills and a keen attention to detail.
•    Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
•    Must be a United States Citizen.
•    Ability to travel and work at military facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Experience as an adult educator working with a military population.
•    Subject matter knowledge in change management and influence without formal authority.
•    Experience designing and/or facilitating adult learning programs, workshops, or courses with the Marine Corps or other military services.
•    Knowledge of the structure, processes, and practices associated with Marine Corps or other military training and education.
•    Ability to communicate research and product development in writing in the form of technical reports and peer-reviewed publications. 
•    Experience with questionnaire administration and data analysis.
•    Experience with knowledge elicitation methods like structured interview methods.
•    Experience in applied research in two or more of the following areas: development of expertise; adult learning; military training systems; modeling and simulation; psychological research methods; and assessment of human cognitive performance.
